how did you get a garden in the middle of los angeles?
one of the things that’s neat about living in west hollywood is they’ve had a community gardening program that’s been around for 25 years. (as old as me!) i signed up for a garden plot shortly after i moved to west hollywood in the summer of 2006. i got the phone call telling me there was a vacancy on october 19th, 2009. it looks like this isn’t an unusual amount of time to wait for a garden plot in los angeles, but i’m sure some neighborhoods have shorter waits.
there’s been some issues recently with the gardening program since the city doesn’t have the money to actually buy the garden land. right now the program is month to month, but there’s a chance that either they’re going to move the garden to a new location or they’ll end up buying this land or they might just shut the program down. i’m not trying to get too attached to this space since it all could change, but i’m paid up through the end of the year and everything i’m planning on planting should be done growing by then. we’ll see what happens in january.
